The Carniolan honey bee (Apis mellifera carnica) is the autochthonous Slovenian breed of bees, and the Gorenjska region is recognised as its home in Slovenia. The bee is a source of great pride for us in Slovenia as the Carniolan bee is the second most widespread breed of bees in the world today after the Italian breed. Slovenian beekeepers turn their honey into outstanding products and you will be hard pressed to find such variety of bee products in such a small area anywhere else in Europe or the world. Architectural and cultural heritage intertwined with folk tradition spanning several centuries will present the history of Slovenia in a different light. You will walk through monasteries and presentations of folk traditions and enjoy opulent spreads featuring local culinary delicacies featuring bee products.
